2020 Avenue of Flags

The 48 Annual Avenue of Flags at Floral Haven
Floral Haven’s 48 Annual Avenue of Flags will experience some changes this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As news of our nation’s gradual reopening we are cautiously excited to return to our new normal but there is a natural cautiousness and responsibility that we have all adopted during this challenging time.
As you may be aware our Avenue of Flags has become an event where our staff and the over 1,500 volunteers from our JROTC, Boy Scouts and our Civil Air patrol cadets honor the almost 5,000 veterans by helping to raise each flag in the mission to never forget the individual sacrifices of our men and women who served this great nation. This year due to the COVID-19 response most of our volunteers are unable to serve in the same capacity. In reviewing the CDC guidelines for mass gatherings we could not meet the safety and social distancing guidelines as well as maintain the same level of honor and respect. Many of our guests remain in the 65 and older population and the safety of our community who support this amazing event must be our priority. This year we will raise only the flags of the families who donated their flags this 2019-2020 in a smaller ceremony on Saturday May 23, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. that will allow for proper social distancing for those in attendance and those flags will fly through Memorial Day at 5:00 PM. We will also be placing the smaller individual grave flags throughout our cemetery on the individual graves of veterans as done in prior years. We will raise the Garrison Flag that has traditionally flown over our Veterans Field of Honor. It will have special significance this year as the entire avenue of 4,000 must remain at rest for 2020.
It is our sincere hope that the over 300 flags that will still fly at our cemetery will remind us of the resilience of this great nation and the many who have served under this flag and are remembered on this Memorial Day. Please feel free to share pictures of prior years at your loved one’s flag on our Facebook page as a virtual Avenue. Please check back for information on the live stream of the ceremony.  We also want to thank the many healthcare professionals who continue to care for the many in our community who are battling the COVID-19 virus. “We are truly One Nation Under God”.
