She started at her first school in Porter at approximately 7 years old.

They moved to Wagoner when she was 9 years old where she attended Blue Mound Country School. When she was 12 or 13 she began attending Union Public schools, where she completed the 10th grade.

She married Harold Cherry on September 17, 1949 in a Baptist Church next to the courthouse with her mother and Harold’s mother as their witnesses.

Their first house was on the west side of Main Street in Broken Arrow. They would walk across the street to South Mission Church, where she remained a member for the rest of her life, even when she was unable to attend.

Their first child, Harold Jr., was born when they lived in a garage apartment by her mother and father in-law. The remaining three children, Tresa, Phyllis, and Keith, were born while they lived in the original house on the property where they built their forever home on the Wagoner/Tulsa County Line.

  1. I just wanted to send the Cherry Family my sympathies regarding the loss of your Mother.

India was very important to my Mom and her siblings. I don’t know what they would have done without her when their own Mom was dying.

I also have very fond memories of her and Tresa from when I was younger.

Your Mom was such a kind and gentle soul. She was a light to many especially my family.

    With Love,

    Michelle Sutton

  2. So sorry for your loss but praise the Lord another angel has made it home. We are praying for the family and love you all. We miss y’all here in Texas
