August 3, 1959 - January 15, 2020
Ben Stout, 60, was born on August 3, 1959 and passed on January 15, 2020. Ben loved to grow, create, and fix things. He could grow anything from beautiful tomatoes to beautiful children. He blessed us by providing a yard, house, and home that was immaculately maintained. He created amazing art through charcoal, pencil, and watercolor. He wrote dozens of beautiful songs on his guitar. Ben could fix anything. Once we could not afford a car part, so he welded together some plumbing parts and fixed our car. We drove it for years until we sold it. He loved to play golf, to travel, to walk the yard, to swim, to play games, but mostly, he loved his family. He also loved people and community service. Ben served as a deacon, camp counsellor, and a Sunday School teacher. He sang in many a church choir. He spoke often spoke of the responsibility and privilege of being a good mentor to others and a good steward of all that is given. One time, I came home early from school, and his truck bed was filled over the top with canned goods for a shelter. He was a humble man, so I don’t know all of the things like this he did, but I know they were many. The biggest lesson we learned from him is that there is only one thing. Obedience to God’s Will. He was always obedient to God in the things he did no matter how he felt, no matter how illogical, no matter what mistakes were made, and no matter what anyone else thought. Because of his obedience, God blessed him with a great gift of healing. He has helped heal broken hearts, broken minds, broken organizations, broken procedures and process, and broken moments. And he always gave All the Glory to God! He was a good man. The story that came back to him over and over during his struggle with cancer is John 9:1-12. When everyone wanted to know why? Who sinned? Where to place blame, Jesus said you don’t understand. This is and was always about manifesting the Glory of God. It’s just not about us. He sincerely believed in God’s ability to heal him, but he knew that God was going to use this cancer journey to manifest His Glory and to lead others to Christ. His favorite bible verses are: Psalm 119:11 Thy Word I have hidden in my heart that I may not sin against Thee. Psalm 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
