Betty Lou (Durham) Pentecost “Granny” passed away peacefully on February 4, 2005 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 24, 1923 in Avant, Oklahoma. She graduated Glenpool High School at the age of sixteen as class valedictorian. After completing Draughon Business School on scholarship, she traveled to Washington, D.C. at the age of nineteen to work for the Fish & Wildlife Department, then later the Department of Interior, finishing her career with the Social Security Administration in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was extremely proud of her service to her country and remained fiercely patriotic to Broken Arrow and her country until her passing.Betty had forty-nine wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband Frank S. Pentecost. After his death in 1994, she became active with the Broken Arrow Senior Center. At the Center she served a term as historian and she enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Betty also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and worked as an election monitor for Tulsa County. She loved to travel; on her last trip she especially appreciated the sights of Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty.She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be remembered and cherished for her kind heart, sense of humor, and love of God and family. The matriarch of our family will be dearly missed.Her earthly body will be laid to rest next to her husband at Egypt Cemetery in Colmesneil, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Broken Arrow Seniors, Inc.Survived By: her sister Augusta, her son and daughter, Michael and Penny Pentecost, Janice and Charles Salter; 3 grandchildren, Joe and Brandice Pentecost, Kerry and Bryan Rowland, and Daniel Salter; 6 great grandchildren, Brianna, Daphne, Tucker, Maesyn, Chloe, and Joey.
