July 13, 1943 - February 11, 2012
David Gilmore Horton was born on July 13, 1943 in New Orleans, LA to David G Bellau and Emilie McKneely-Bellau. Not long after David was born, his mother separated, later divorced and moved into her childhood home on Walnut St across from Tulane University. While working for the U.S. Treasury, Emilie met and married Oscar Horton. When David was 3 years old, they moved to Dallas, TX.   Later that year, brother Robert Horton was born. David graduated  from Hillcrest High School in Dallas and attended Texas Tech for 3 years majoring first in Architecture then later Food Management.   During this time, David started a restaurant across from campus which was very busy and popular with Davidâ??s creative flair.  David married and had daughter Lisa (Laird) on September 24, 1966. A year or so later, David separated and divorced. On September 20, 1969, David married Jeannine Culbert-Horton in Cresco, IA. Their first son, Chad David Horton was born on January 25, 1972 in Dallas, TX. Todd Sproule Horton was born on August 7, 1975 in Dallas, TX. David accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior sometime in 1973 on the LBJ Expressway in North Dallas as he likes to recall.  David started a custom picture frame shop called David Frames Dallas. After moving to Tulsa, OK in 1976, David started David Frames Tulsa which was very successful, framing nationally recognized artistâ??s originals and limited additions as well as for Ken Selby and all of his Mazzioâ??s Pizza restaurants in Tulsa during the 1980â??s. After 10 years, he sold it to start other small businesses and later spent 12 years on the road as a cross country truck driver until he retired in 2005. David was a self- proclaimed industrial designer, always working to creatively improve many things from cup holders to restaurant hotdog varieties to his legendary fly swatters. He had an incredible eye for detail and had a quirky, â??life of the partyâ?, sense of humor that always commanded a grand entrance of some kind, especially when he was younger. He was a great and supportive, kind-hearted, compassionate, husband and father who gave everything and asked for nothing. He loved to cook, garden and write edifying prayers for others. He also loved politics and talk radio. He spent many years reaching out to the lost in all walks of life helping them get a leg up in life and sharing Jesus with them. David never met a stranger. In what now seems to be a self-fulfilled prophecy, one of David Hortonâ??s dreams was to orchestrate a large corporate prayer for a specific purpose. On February 9, 2012, in Davidâ??s grand entrance style, he collapsed in the Mabee Center at ORU minutes before the start of the Rick Santorum Town Hall in front of 4000 people which led ORUâ??s President, Dr. Mark Rutland, to turn a political rally into a prayer rally to help save his life. Little did they know that he was likely looking down upon us at his final creation with a smile. Two days later on February 11, 2012, he peacefully passed away with all immediate family at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. We LOVE YOU!!!  David is survived by wife Jeannine, daughter Lisa, son Chad, daughter-in-law Dana, son Todd, daughter-in-law Michelle, brother  Robert, sister-in-law Sally and grandchildren Malia, Cole, Drew, Paige, Caleb, and Kerby. David is preceded by mother Emilie and father Oscar. In lieu of flowers, please donate in honor of David G Horton to either the American Heart Association or the Adoption Fund at The Church at Battle Creek in Broken Arrow, OK, where a special fund has been setup for him. Funeral Service to be held 10:30 am Wednesday February 15th ,2012 at The Church At Battle Creek, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
