December 10, 1952 - May 29, 2012
Dave Murphy (Murph) was born in Deming, New Mexico to Carroll Dean Murphy II & Joyce Marie (Bryan) Murphy. They soon moved to Chicago where he had a fantastic childhood and wonderful memories. The family was transferred to Tulsa where he has been long enough to be called an â??Okieâ?.  Dave married Sherri Griffin on June 2, 1973. Since 1984 Dave & Sherri have owned a small business for industrial filtration products.  Dave is survived by his wife, Sherri; Daughter April Thompson; Son Mike Murphy; Son-In-Law Rob Thompson and Adored Grandson Michael Thompson. He is also survived by his Brother Cary Smith, Sisters Joyce Momper and Nancy Johnson.  Dave treasured his family, always putting them first in his heart and always thinking and doing what was best for them and their future. He loved being not only with his family but with his friends. He was the ultimate host no matter what occasion or excuse to get together for some laughs. He went all out for Christmas (except for the decorating, he left that up to Sherri). He loved giving surprises & gifts throughout the year but really enjoyed Grandson Michaelâ??s face light up when Santa arrived. We canâ??t forget Vegas! He so enjoyed getting away to Vegas & enjoying the fun times we all shared together with friends or just the two of us.  The best way to know and understand how Dave impacted his family and friends is by the following letter received from a dear friend.  The Measure of a Man is Not How He Died but How He Lived  I felt compelled to put my thoughts in writing about your family. I have admired you and Murph since our first meeting. Jeff had told me about you guys and had so many stories of admiration for you and Murph that when I first met you guys, I felt I knew you.  Murph didnâ??t let everyone get close, I felt privileged that he would allow me to ask his advice about building a home, gains & losses in stocks, politics & just life in general. I looked to him more as a father figure than a friend. That is a great responsibility to place on a guy but he took it & gave back 100 percent. I have had life happen to me over the last three years, you & Murph were there to listen & support me through the good & bad. It was a comfort to me that you guys listened to my thoughts, questions & sometimes rants. Thank You.  I admired his no nonsense approach to life & issues. His expectation level of you & him were higher than the people around him. You guys should be proud of the legacy you have created through your family & the business that has allowed you to help so many people.  This is not just about Murph & his family but the great group of people that he surrounded himself with. Even when he was sick he thought about others by not wanting visitors in the hospital. My perception was that he didnâ??t want friends to remember the negative but the positive which was his life.  I have good & bad traits from my own parents but I can tell you there are a few traits that I would aspire to have of Murphs. Most importantly the love he showed his family by his everyday actions. He never told me he loved me but I could tell he did. Why else would he listen to the simplest questions & then give me that little smile when I finally got the answer. I was disappointed that I was unable to tell him that I loved him & how much I cherished his friendship & advice. So I will tell you, I love you and Murph. I appreciate you always being there for me through the good & bad times. Most of all I appreciate the fact that you included me in your lives.  One recent conversation stands out.  I walked into the office & asked Murph for a favor.  He said, â??The answer is yes, now what is the question?â? The guys started laughing because they had all heard the same response in the past. The funny thing was he meant it.  Carpe Diem!  Kelly    Murph, you will be greatly missed by your family, friends and all those whom you deeply touched. Indeed, CARPE DIEM!
