February 15, 1928 - November 30, 2021
Dorothy Lee McGehee, 93, of Jenks and Claremore, died Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 at Clarehouse Hospice Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born February 15th, 1928, in Broken Arrow, to Louise Cassell Shook and Lee Shook. Dorothy went to Union Schools when it was a one building campus on 61st St in Tulsa. She always had a competitive spirit and was a cracker jack basketball player in high school. During her senior year, there was a competitive women’s basketball team for redheads that toured the country playing games and doing exhibitions. They were recruiting her when she met the love of her life, Perry McGehee, at the age of 18. Her basketball career ended with high school. Perry was the winner as they went on to be married 70 years before he passed away on November 30th, 2016. After their kids were in school, Dorothy played in serval bowling leagues and bowled with about a 260 average for many years. She was active in all her kids’ sports, cheering and band endeavors. She was also an avid Sooner fan until the very end. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning vegetables from their garden. She also liked watching all the birds and squirrels and their antics. She was a very good seamstress and made many flannel shirts for all her grandsons when they were toddlers, and a quilt for each grandchild when they were older. She also had a beauty shop in her home and was a hairdresser for several years; then she was a school bus driver for Jenks Schools for about 15 years. Most of all, Dorothy was a great wife, mom, grandmother (Nan) and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Perry McGehee; her parents Louise & Lee Shook, step-mother Berta Shook, brother Donald Shook, sisters Dell Robinson and June Shook and son-in-law Chet Pearson. She is survived by sons Edd (Peggy); Mitch (Lori) and daughter Carroll (Ron); five grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Floral Haven, Veterans Field of Honor, 6500 S. 129th E. Ave, Broken Arrow, at 2:30pm, Friday, December 3rd, 2021. It will be standing only, but all friends of the family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family ask that you donate to your local church, veteran’s organization, charity, or Clarehouse Hospice Home in Tulsa, in memory of Dorothy McGehee.
