She attended The Lenox Hill Hospital School of nursing and graduated in June of 1955. She worked at Smithtown General Hospital in Smithtown, Long Island, NY and St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY. As a private duty nurse she worked on several high trauma cases and was regarded as a very devoted, talented nurse who exemplified extraordinary nursing skills, patience and amazing love to all her patients. As word traveled throughout the community, Katherine was regarded as a very well respected nurse who assisted many patients overcome very difficult health challenges, life threatening conditions and illnesses. She also worked on several high profile cases and was privileged to take care of Mickey Mantel, Yogi Berra and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassisâ??s father, Jon Vernou Bouvier III. Katherine later decided to work with children and became the school nurse of Oxhead Road Elementary school in Centereach, Long Island, NY.  Her lifeâ??s dedication and work in nursing reflected her desire to greatly care and make a difference in the lives of her patients. A famous nursing quote says, â??Nurses may not be angels, but they are the next best thing.â? But Katherine was truly an angel to so many people, as she believed and exemplified, â??It is love alone that gives worth to all things.â? Katherine, known as â??Kayeâ? to so many, loved to cook, crochet, arrange flowers and read. And most of all, her mission in life was to love people and her legacy of love has passed to all that came to know her. She led countless people to Christ, always telling others about the love of God. And Kaye was always giving something to someone, as she lived out the scripture that she was, â??Blessed to be a blessing.â? Kayeâ??s heart leaves you with these words today, as this was her most important message as she graduated into heaven. â??Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?
