ARMSTRONG, Odessa Ellen Lester, 89, homemaker, died Friday, February 25, 2005. Odessa was born in Ada, Oklahoma, December 20, 1915. She grew up in Mill Creek as part of a large family of four sisters and three brothers and graduated from East Central College in Ada, OK. Following graduation, she taught in the Ravia, OK school system. She married Andrew R. “Bob” Armstrong on November 11, 1939, and they resided in Tishomingo, where Bob was a part owner of the Armstrong’s Department Store. She moved to Tulsa in 1989 to be closer to her son, leaving many friends in Tishomingo. Odessa was active for more than 50 years in the First United Methodist Church in Tishomingo and was also involved for many years in the Holisso Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew R. “Bob” Armstrong and by her parents, James A. and Minnie Lee Lester. She was the last living sibling, preceded in death by sisters Jimmy Lee Ledgerwood, Christine Watson, Joyce Kelcak, Nina Shue, and brothers Norris, Jerry and J.A. Lester. Her family and friends will always remember her for her graciousness, laughter, and warmth. With her love of music, she’s probably tinkling the ivories and dancing in heaven now! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church in Tishomingo and the American Cancer Society. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Tishomingo Cemetery, under the direction of Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Great granddaughters are Tabitia Mohler and Brittani, Torie and Carlee Shelton; a host of nieces and nephews and a lifetime of good friends.
