I am so sad to see Dustin is no longer around. Looks like he died when we were down with our third case of COVID, which explains why I missed this until now. Prayers for the family.

When Dustin and his brother were kids, I coached his brother in flag football and baseball. We took them fishing with us and two of our boys. I had teased them by saying if we didn't catch anything, we couldn't eat. Nearly lunch time, Dustin was getting rather frantic about everyone else having caught fish, but not him. I told him not to worry, he'd catch one soon. It didn't take him long to explain that he didn't think he'd be able to eat because he didn't catch anything yet. That nearly broke my heart! I'd never meant for him to think HE had to catch fish if he wanted to eat. I quickly opened the ice chest and showed him that nobody was going to be hungry. I had hot dogs just in case it was a no-catch day. I never saw anyone so relieved! He was a good kid. I'm really glad to see his picture with a fish in his hand.

Dustin and I spent the covid years at the 21st and Sheridan call center…probably the safest place for us to be cuz all the other workers were at home!!!! Dustins voice could be heard throughout the center : knowledgeable, emphatetical, and he always put his customer first!!! ( and his stats were always stellar as a result). While on break, he could always be counted on to talk about float trips, fishing, OU football, driving a truck to make a $100000/year, his Mom and nephew. Ou football would nudge his MOM off the list for a second, but not for long!!!!!He tried to reach out to me in chat the other day to say he was glad I was still here and I replied U2 always thinking we had more time, but alas, he arrived in heaven before us!!! So Dustin ,rest in peace my friend and blessings to your family during this time of loss—Eric Housman, aging veteran of dtv/att experience

Hartwick was a lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan. He loved all thing Oklahoma athletics. We had season tickets for football together in 2001, the year after Oklahoma won the National Championship. Over the years we went to many OU football games together. I remember one September we got tickets to see an OU home game. We made the trip down I-44 together from Tulsa to Norman. We had a cooler full of beer and we headed down early to tailgate. As we were walking around campus north of the stadium near the field house, Dustin spotted Sherri Coale, the Oklahoma women’s basketball coach. He said “ Bones, I need you to take a picture of me with Coach!” I said “Hell yeah bro I got you”. I pulled my Motorola RAZR out of my pocket and got ready to snap a pic. Hartwick approached Coach Coale, beer in hand, and politely asked if he could get a pic with her. She said “Of course, just put the beer down first” Hartwick quickly went to put the bottle of Moosehead down on the ground not realizing there was a curb behind him. As he was putting the beer down he tripped over the curb, hit the ground, did a roll and then quickly hopped back up not missing a beat. Sherri Coale looked at me laughing and said, “I think your buddy has had a few hasn’t he?” We all cracked up and after that day we dubbed the event, “The Coale Roll”. Boomer Sooner Hartwick.

I have a few I can share about Dustin. He always left you with a memory. He had an energetic spark when he spoke. Dustin helped me immensely with my career. We started at the same level. Dustin went on to pursue other opportunities however he always had faith I would have a bigger role. Dusting pushed me to move away to another town and take a better position, he then persuaded me to do it again, than again. Giving me advice, couching, and support the whole way through. Dustin believed in me more than I did myself at times and gave me motivation to be where I am today. They say the good die young... this seems to confirm it.

Words will not express the pain or make sense of this tragedy. There is no right or wrong way to express your grief. You are loved by so many here.

The Hartwick family is on the forefront of my wife and I minds and are lifted in prayer. We are here for you.
