Albert Joseph Widmar's Obituary
October 15, 2005. Al was born on March 20, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph Widmar and Anna Jernejcic. He spent 60 years as a professional Widmar Albert Joseph, 80, died Saturday, baseball player, scout, coach, manager, and ball club executive. Al made his debut in the major leagues in 1947 with the Boston Red Sox. He went on to pitch for the St. Louis Browns, the Chicago White Sox, and Seattle of the old Pacific Coast League before coming to Tulsa as a player/coach with the Oilers. He continued his career in various capacities with the Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, and Toronto Blue Jays. Al lived an extraordinary life. He made friends around the world with his sense of humor, generosity, and love of the game. He was a dreamer, a motivator, and an entertaining storyteller. We were blessed to be part of his life; the world will not be as bright without him. He is loved and missed. Al is survived by his loving wife, Betty of the home. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on Nov. 10, 2005. He is also survived by his daughter, JoAnn Pike and husband, John of Broken Arrow; sons, Tom Widmar of Coweta; Michael Widmar and wife, Debbie of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jennifer Zahornacky and husband, Michael of Waltham, MA and Katie Pike also of Waltham, MA; Joseph and Arthur Widmar of Boise, Idaho; Brandon Widmar of Sapulpa; and Alan Widmar of Oklahoma City; sisters; MaryAnn Shuss and husband, Paul of Strongsville, Ohio and Aiken, South Carolina; Margaret Widmar Scarr and husband, Bob of Westlake, Ohio. Al was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joseph and John Widmar of Cleveland, Ohio; and his grandson, Benjamin Pike. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities. Rosary, 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Ok.
