Alfred E. Fischer's Obituary
Alfred Fischer (Al) passed away on the morning of December 26, 2013. Al had been suffering from heart disease for quite a few years. Al and his beloved wife Josephine Weidl Fischer (Jo) had been married for 67 wonderful years. Al is survived by his wife, his two daughters; Sharon Fischer Welvaert of Tulsa and Deborah Fischer Goodman of Dayton, OH. Al and Jo also have two wonderful granddaughters, Amy Welvaert of Houston, TX and Stacy Welvaert Sherman of Austin, TX. Al is also survived by his sister, Margaret Bartlett of Canton, MI. Al has two admiring sons-in-law in Dennis Welvaert and Phil Goodman. Al was born in Detroit, MI and shortly after graduating from high school joined the Army during WWII. He honorably served his country as a Military Policeman seeing duty in Guadalcanal, the Philippines and the occupation of Japan. Al’s best friend in the Army, Larry Weidl, introduced him to his sister, Jo, and that introduction led to a wonderful life together for Al and Jo. You see something good does come out of spending time in fox holes. After his discharge from the Army, Al joined the Detroit Police Department and married the love of his life Jo. He retired from the police department after 20 years and became a Security Guard for General Motors at their Headquarters in Detroit. Al retired from GM and spent time with his family. Al’s family was always the most important thing for him and he enjoyed doing everything for them. During their life together, Al and Jo lived in Michigan; Inverness, FL; Kettering, OH and most recently living at the Country Club at Woodland Hills in Tulsa, OK. If one word could characterize Al Fischer it is that he was a ‘Gentlemen’. He always gave more of himself to others and would always think of himself last. Even when he was weak from his illness, he always held the door for his wife and daughters. He was a great man. A visitation with the family will be at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 S. 129th E. Ave., Broken Arrow, OK 74012 on Sunday, December 29 from 2 to 4 PM. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude Research Hospital at www.StJude.org at the Donate Now tab.
