Alfred Harold Noren's Obituary
Alfred Harold Noren, of Tulsa, Oklahoma went home to the Lord on Friday, August 29th, 2014 at the age of 81. A believer in Jesus Christ, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he worked hard to provide and care for his family.Alf was born in Ashton, SD on January 21, 1933. During his school years, he worked the family farm and helped with his father’s mail routes. He played right tackle for the Redfield Public HS Pheasants, and he played basketball for every team he could find—once playing in three leagues at the same time. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served his country in England as a radioman and telephone lineman. He loved singing, and when he entered Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD, he joined the choir. It was while on a tour with that choir that he began dating the love of his life Sharon Yost. They were married on June 9, 1957, and remained married for 57 years until his passing. For his work at Boeing and then McDonald Douglas, they moved to Kent, WA, and then to Kenner, LA before moving to Florissant, MO where he was a member of St. Andrew UMC for more than 30 years and sang in the choir. He spent his final years in Tulsa where he and Sherry moved to be closer to family.Alf was a soft-spoken man, but could always find a fun story to share, about anything from his Swedish heritage, or skinny dipping in the Jim River with a giant snapping turtle, to engineering the production of the aircraft that defended our skies and took men into space. He was especially proud of the work he did in the defense industry. He loved building and flying model airplanes, and enjoyed doing just about anything mechanical if he had enough duct tape. It was hard to find anyone who didn’t like him.Alf was preceded in death by his father and mother, Halveden Noren and Violet Beechy, and his brothers Sven and Earl. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon; their son James Baker-Noren of Louisville Kentucky and his wife Sylvia, and their children, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Matthew, Melissa and her son Eric Steffan, and Rebecca Stafford and her husband Willis, and their children Brandon and Michaela Vincent, and Kristian and Sabrina Stafford; their son Robert of Broken Arrow and his wife Win; and his sister Mary Ann McCann of Texas, as well as several nieces.Visitation will be held at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow, OK on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 5:00—7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Heritage Bible Church, 4932 S. 83rd E. Ave. in Tulsa, OK, on Monday, September 8, 2014, at 12:00 PM.
