Alice R. Deason's Obituary
Alice Ruth Herring – Deason April 19, 1941 – October 31, 2016 On April 19, 1941, near the small Delaware County of Eucha, Oklahoma, during a heavy spring rain storm, GOD sent the world a special gift, Alice Ruth Herring. The rain water flooded the bridge over Spavinaw Creek, requiring Raymond Charlie Herring carried the mid-wife across the swollen creek to assist his wife, Flora Evaleen (Custer) Herring, in the birth of their tenth child that they brought into this world. The proud couple raised their loving, compassionate and beautiful daughter in Delaware County, Oklahoma, where she accepted the Lord at age 12 years and graduated with honors from Jay High School in 1959. Shortly after, Alice Herring met the love, of her life, Garry Lee Deason, and they married on August 11, 1959, at the courthouse. The vows they made to each other on that August day in Jay, Oklahoma, joined the two of them as one for eternity and that bond remains though she has transitioned to Heaven before him. The love they share blessed this world with two children, Becky and Garry II, and then they chose to add two more babies to their family, Donna and Eddie. While many more could have followed, the couple instead chose to love and spoil their four children, 11 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. After her children were older, Alice expanded her knowledge of horticulture, with studies in college, and endeavored in the greenhouse business. Of course, Garry was always by her side, as she was his, in everything. For, as anyone knows, the meaning of “the two shall be one” could not be more literal than proven by these two people, who share a love that few couples can ever achieve, nor maintain. They demonstrated true love and served as the example of dedication, commitment, and affection. One of the secrets to their success is that the two truly became one. Alice was a member of Garry’s family and vice versa. Alice never considered any of Garry’s family in-law, nor did she call them in-laws. They were her brothers and sisters. His mother was mom and his father was her poppa. They were her family. She could never imagine life without them. She would have defended them with her life, as she loved all of them unconditionally. Alice and Garry Deason made their homes in four Oklahoma locations: Turley, Skiatook, Chelsea, and Tulsa. At each location, they made lifelong friends. Friends that were more than just a neighbor but became members of their extended family, because Alice loved everyone she met and never found fault in anyone, no matter what. She was the most kind, loving, and giving person anyone knew. Of course, Alice’s primary objective in life was being a mother and homemaker, which was her passion and a special skill. She served many. After leaving Chelsea, the Deasons returned to Tulsa, where she spent the remainder of her live continuing her pursuit to serve her family and friends. Throughout her life, Alice battled many health issues, which ultimately took their toll and ended her life on earth. Then, on October 31, 2016, at 8:46 pm, the Lord ended her suffering and sent a host of heavenly angels to bring her home. Her husband, Garry, and their children, Becky, Garry II, Donna, and Eddie, as well as many of her Alice’s grandchildren and family members were at her side as she peacefully made the spiritual journey to her eternal home in Heaven with God. Amen and Amen. While Alice loved flowers, and was especially partial to any type of living plant so they could be enjoyed forever by the family in remembrance, she also loved children and adored her brother who was born with Down’s Syndrome. Alice was a champion of children’s and Down’s Syndrome causes. Please consider donations in her name to St. Jude or the Down’s Syndrome Society in her honor. Preceded in death by: Parents: Ray and Eva Herring. Siblings: Charlie Herring, Mary Ann Herring, Mary Ellen Perrine, Judy Mitchell, Frank Herring, Georgia Winkle, William Herring.
