In Loving Memory of Alice Collins Gosney
Longtime Broken Arrow and Bixby resident, Alice Collins Gosney passed away February 4, 2024 at Montereau in Tulsa, OK. Born December 3, 1938 in Miami, OK she was the youngest of four daughters of Agnes (Morton) and Howard E. Collins. She was 85 years of age.
Alice grew up in Miami and was a member of the Miami High School Class of 1956. Following graduation from Oklahoma State University she began a teaching career that spanned over thirty years, beginning in 1961 at Miami High School, including a position in Fremont, NE and concluding in 1993 after 21 years at Broken Arrow High School.
She married Harley Gosney on December 22, 1962. He was her lifelong companion and they formed a partnership that lasted for 57 years. They had two children together. Known for her love of literature and writing, sunshine-the color yellow, and Broadway musicals, Alice enjoyed holiday family get-togethers, especially the Fourth of July celebrations she and Harley loved to host and the family Christmas gatherings they attended in St. Louis for many years while her children were growing up. She loved establishing and following family traditions throughout the years.
In the first years of her retirement, she was a docent at the Philbrook Museum of Art and a volunteer with Broken Arrow Neighbors. She also participated in the activities of the South Tulsa Retired Teachers Organization as well as Kappa Kappa Iota teachers’ sorority. She was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. In the 1970’s she was named to the list of Outstanding Young Women of the Southwest and in the 1990’s she was the recipient of the Harmor award for community service. She was active for many years at Broken Arrow’s First Baptist Church.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband Harley and her sister Jeanie Vivrett. She is survived by her daughter Leigh Bowler (Kevin) of Kildeer, IL, and son Doug Gosney (Annie) of Kingwood, TX as well as her five grandsons, Colin and Benjamin Bowler and Gabriel, Nicholas, and Maxwell Gosney. Also surviving are two sisters Beverly Williamson, Oklahoma City; Barbara (Art) Lind, Chesterfield, MO; sister- in -law Debby Gosney of Yukon, OK, along with eleven nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, special cousins, and dear and lifelong friends.
A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, located at 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.

A lunch reception will be held once the chapel service concludes from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Floral Haven’s Family Center. The family encourages everyone to attend. The Floral Haven Family Center is located at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6420 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
