Alice Catherine Sykes' Obituary
Alice Catherine (Cathy) Sykes was born in Dry Prong, Louisiana on April 11, 1931 to Luther Charles and Ruby Langley Collins. Her siblings were Ruby Clara Reed, Lucille Garvin, Luther Collins and Douglas McQueen. Cathy married Donald Martin Sykes on May 17th, 1948 in Tulsa, OK. She and Don were blessed with two boys, Donald Martin Sykes, Jr. & Dennis Wayne Sykes. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Garvin of Joshua Tree, Ca., son Donnie and his wife Lisa, Susan Barr, grandson Joshua Sykes and great granddaughter, Ocie Sykes, who shares her birthday.
Cathy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She spent her life devoted to loving and caring for her family. She was a homemaker but helped the boys raise chickens and show their pigeons. She would hold a wrench, get greasy and go for fast rides with the boys. The family loved to fish and play at the lake. The annual trip to Bull Shoals was the highlight of the year.
She loved her job at Safeway as a checker but her favorite spot was the floral department. She always had beautiful plants flowers at home. She could take a stick and make it bloom.
She loved collecting vintage jewelry, glass, dolls and more. She, Don and Josh traveled all over the country to find items to sell, and even though Josh had his eye on baseball cards, she taught him how to spot the best jewelry. Together they spent over 20 years at First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Tx and various shows and flea markets. She was known as “The Jewelry Lady” to her customers and vendors.
A graveside service to honor Cathy’s life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 12pm at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
