Alma R. Montgomery's Obituary
Alma R. Montgomery passed away on June 18, 2010. She was born in Pryor, Oklahoma on September 7, 1920 to Thomas Roy Padgett and Rena Anderson Padgett. She had one sister, Edith Denton and three brothers, Blewford, Nolan, and Billie Padgett. All are deceased. She moved to Tulsa when she was 13 and lived there until the early 1970’s. She married Tom Montgomery in 1937. During the war, Alma worked at Douglas Aircraft as a “Rosie the Riveter” on B24 and B26 Bombers. After the war, she worked at Vandevers, Frougs, and Hanna Lumber Company. At Hanna, she was a salesperson, a manager, and a member of the Board of Trustees. All positions were a first for a woman. She and Tom moved to Grand Lake where she managed a convenience store, the Disney Dandy for 16 years. She retired in 1989. In 2001, she moved to the Baptist Village in Owasso where she lived for 9 years. She outlived most of her family, but left behind a daughter and son-n-law, Sharon and John Lairmore of Owasso; a niece, Wanda Metcalf of Collinsville; two nephews, Buddy Padgett of Oklahoma City and Billie Roy Padgett of Beaver, Arkansas. She left many extended family and friends. The funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow. She left many extended family and friends.
