Anna Mae Cartwright's Obituary
Anna Mae Cartwright
November 7, 1934 – March 16, 2024
Anna Mae was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tulsa was her home most of her life. As a child, she also lived in the Redwoods in California. She loved the Redwoods and would often tell stories about the saw mills and the sound made when the trees fell. Other fond memories included the time she lived in Pawhuska, OK. We were able to take her there in recent years to visit, and she would describe living there and told us about playing and climbing the steps in front of the Osage County Courthouse.
Anna Mae was previously a member of Gracemont Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Forest Ridge Baptist Church. She had a very strong faith that was never more apparent than on Saturday morning before her passing.
Anna Mae spent most of her adult life working as an administrative assistant in the construction business. However, her favorite time was spent working at Briarglen Elementary School. She loved working with all the students, teachers and staff.
Anna Mae attended Central High School in Tulsa and graduated in 1953. She attended many class reunions and continued relationships with some of her classmates throughout her life. After high school, she met and married Lloyd Cartwright. They were married 54 years before Lloyd’s passing in 2009.
Anna Mae was known by many names. Anna Mae, Ann, Annie, Mom, Mama, Nanny, Nanny Annie…she was happy to answer to any of them, but Nanny was her favorite. She sure loved all of her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Anna Mae lived an active life. She and Lloyd enjoyed boating, stock car races, hockey games and roller skating. Every weekend was filled with some type of activity. She also loved to play games, and continued playing cards with wonderful friends who would come to her home every month and spend the day playing at the kitchen table. Anna Mae had exceptional skills at crocheting, sewing, embroidery and crafting. She loved spending time in her yard tending to her beautiful flowers and watching her hummingbirds. She was very proud of her Cherokee heritage. She also had a love for Genealogy. She spent many hours tracking down information on her relatives.
Anna Mae was a true friend. Her friends were very important to her, and she would often take a friend to an appointment, or provide them food, or pick up a friend and head to a grandkid’s ball game. She loved to be on the move.
Anna Mae is survived by her children, Robert Cartwright and wife Judy, Renda Sherrell and husband Jody; Sister, Jeane Hunter; grandchildren, Joseph Sherrell and wife Amanda, Reanna Abarca and husband Victor, Justin Sherrell and fiancé Samantha Christian, Brian Cartwright and wife Micah, Brent Cartwright, Kathryn Jansen and Dawn Hurst, Linda Thompson, and Jason Thompson.
