Anne M. Richards' Obituary
Anne Marise (Porterfield) Richards was born May 13, 1925, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Eugene Edward Porterfield and Rhoda Susan Hathcock. Anne graduated from Shawnee High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She met her future husband, Bill Scott Richards, during high school. Anne worked for an attorney in Shawnee after school each day. The day after Bill graduated from high school, he joined the US Navy, and he and Anne were married in San Francisco, California, October 24, 1943. Bill was stationed in Hawaii, and Anne returned to Shawnee by bus where she worked as a legal secretary and waited two years for Bill’s return. Upon his return from the Navy, Bill attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. Anne and Bill moved to Tulsa where all three of their children were born. Anne joined Highland Park Garden Club where she remained active for many years. She then joined Tulsa Garden Club where she was President from 1984 – 1986. Anne won many awards for her beautiful and unique floral arrangements. She was also a member of Ikebana International from which she won many other awards, National Genealogy Society, and was State Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution from 2001 to 2003. She remained a member of DAR to present day. Anne was an avid genealogist and had a life-long love of reading. Anne was a poised and gracious lady, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a loving and steadfast wife to her husband of 67 years until his passing in September, 2010. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and her sister, Patricia. She is survived by her three children, Karen Richards McKee and husband Chris, Julie (Richards) Massey Thompson and fiancé Don, Matthew Richards, and grandchildren Tammy Nolan and husband Chris, Jacob McKee, Cullen McKee and wife Rachel, William Massey and wife Julie, Wade Porterfield Thompson, Clayton and Melissa Richards, and four great-grandchildren Zoe and Eliana Nolan, Bridget McKee, and Charlotte McKee . Donations in Anne’s memory may be made to Tulsa Rose Garden.Funeral Service to be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel. Interment at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens.
