Areitta Elizabeth Agee's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Areitta Elizabeth Agee. Areitta was born in Halls, Missouri on October 12, 1937, to parents Robert and Beatrice Matthews, and departed this world from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on November 6, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Areitta attended high school in De Kalb, Missouri, graduating in 1955. She met Jerry Lee Agee, who would eventually become her husband in 1957. Areitta and Jerry met at the Deri Ette Ice Cream Store in St. Joseph, Missouri. Legend has it that Jerry eventually asked Areitta to hop on his motorcycle and take a ride with him around the neighborhood. The two instantly fell in love and well… the rest was history.
Areitta and Jerry married on September 26, 1959. The two of them left St. Joseph, Missouri on September 28, 1959, for Houston, Texas, as Jerry's employment with Rock Island Railroad had transferred the couple. Areitta and Jerry did travel and move quite a bit during their early years together due to the nature of Jerry's work. They were relocated from Houston to El Reno, Oklahoma on February 1, 1960, and they stayed there until July 1, 1962, then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Frisco Railroad. Eventually the couple was transferred yet again to Springfield, Missouri, in May of 1966. They moved to Oklahoma on May 1, 1968, where they created a cozy life for themselves in Tulsa for many years. Areitta and Jerry moved back to Texas, specifically the Fort Worth area on October 1, 1991. It was only when Jerry retired on September 1, 1995, that they decided to return to Tulsa and live out their years together.
Areitta was the very best seamstress and did many alterations for friends and her personal clients throughout the years. She even sewed together four suits for her husband Jerry, that truly looked better than a professional tailor could have ever accomplished. Jerry was immensely particular pertaining to his clothing and personal style during his early days and was always so satisfied with Areitta's sewing skills and the love she put into every stitch. Moreover, she sewed many pieces of clothes for her two children, Roger and Susan, as well as for her grandchildren. It was a hobby she felt truly passionate about and she found great joy in it. Areitta mastered her craft exponentially throughout the years and later decided to take up machine-knitting and learned how to crochet.
Areitta made friends easily anywhere she went. She could multi-task as well as outperform three people doing the same tasks. She was an excellent helper and even assisted Jerry in cleaning vacant rental properties. Areitta took pride in cleaning and being a homemaker, making sure everything was always one hundred percent up to standard. Areitta and Jerry owned three motorhomes and spent the last few winters in Florida, until the dreadful disease dementia took over Areitta's mind. Areitta touched the lives of many with her kindness and warmth. She was always willing to help anyone in need and put others before herself often. She will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Areitta is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Beatrice Matthews as well as her siblings: James, Lawrence, Harold, Ronnie, Ila Fauver, Doris Judah, Shirley Westcott, and Patty Horine.
She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 64 years, Jerry Agee, son Roger (Glatha) Agee, and daughter Susan (Weldon) Gould. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Tayla (Drew) Fleck, Colton (Vanessa) Agee, Hunter Agee (Morgan), Tegan Gould (Chase), Kaeli Gould, as well as her four great grandchildren: Taytum Fleck, Trey Fleck, Bane Parker, and Emri Parker.
