Arlo Sellers' Obituary
Arlo Loyal Sellers went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the age of 88 years. He was born July 7, 1930 in Greenwood County, Kansas to his parents, Orlan Dean Sellers and Marie Mable Jones Sellers, the oldest of the five children born to his parents. The Sellers family lived on a farm near Toronto, Kansas until Arlo was 12 years old when their house burned down. Arlo, his brother and Dad lived in a chicken coop for a few months while his mother was in a nursing home. After his mother passed away when Arlo was 12, the three moved to Colorado but Arlo’s Dad was unable to find steady work there and they moved back to Wichita, Kansas. Arlo started working for Dillons Grocery Store in Wichita, Kansas when he was 15 years old. He graduated from Wichita High School East in 1948. He served as a Seaman in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1951 assigned to the Boxer Aircraft Carrier out of Alameda Air Base in Oakland, California. They were united in marriage on November 30, 1952 in Argonia, Kansas during a once-every-50-year ice storm. The couple had three children, all boys. They made their home in Wichita until they built a home in Augusta, Kansas in 1973 where Arlo became the first manager of the brand new Dillons Grocery store. Arlo remained at the Augusta Dillons store until his retirement in1985 at the age of 55. When Arlo and Gloria became Christians in 1965, Arlo’s life changed forever and he has been looking forward to going home to be with the Lord ever since. Upon Arlo’s retirement, he and Gloria moved to the North Shore of Hawaii, where Arlo took the job of grounds keeper for Sunset Christian School. They lived in Haleiwa, Hawaii in 1986 and 1987. After a couple of years in Tucson, Arizona, they moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in 1989 and lived there until 2014 when they moved to Kentucky to live with their middle son. Arlo was a very family-oriented man who loved his family and was the Patriarch of the family. He was also a very adventurous man. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed landscaping, hiking and driving. Arlo also enjoyed preaching in rural churches in Arizona and Oklahoma.
