Arthur D. “Randy” KuhnRandy, 90, of Tulsa, OK, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the Oklahoma Veterans Center, Claremore, OK, due to congestive heart failure. Born October 14, 1926, to Arthur and Lillie Kuhn, Salina, Kansas.Randy was a graduate of Salina High School and attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. He served in the US Army during WW II as a Paratrooper. Married Helen L. Hemphill June 29, 1947.As a civilian, he worked 30 years for the US Post Office. He became a rural carrier which was the ultimate carrier position in the Postal Service. He also was their star baseball player for their local team.He formed the “Randy Kuhn Orchestra” of 10 members, and he and Helen traveled the three surrounding states on weekends to play dances. Randy played his trumpet and sang, and Helen played the piano, and sometimes filling in for national acts as they passed through Salina. For 17 years, he worked for the American Federation of Musicians part-time as a local secretary for Local 207, and he and his wife Helen eventually moved to Connecticut and worked in New York City to continue his employment with the AF of M in the recording field. Retiring, he moved to Virginia, and eventually in 1989 to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where he played golf daily. He also competed in many Senior Golf Tournaments while living in Connecticut and Arkansas. Golf, fishing and hunting were his love. He also continued his musical career with The Village III in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He assisted with the Welcoming Committee for residents moving from Kansas to Hot Springs Village and served in bringing entertainment to the Hot Springs Village retirement community.During his retirement he became involved with the 11th Airborne and worked as their National Secretary. During 2012, he was honored as the Trooper of the Year for his dedication and outstanding service. He continued working as National Secretary, writing a column for the Voice of the Angels Magazine, “The Home Plate” and organized many conventions, writing letters and handling the many requests of the members. In 2013 Randy and Helen moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be closer to family.Besides being National Secretary, Randy volunteered at the Coffee Bunker in Tulsa, Oklahoma every Friday as the welcoming desk attendant until October 1, 2016, when he fell at his residence resulting in a broken hip and head injury. He loved to teach incoming veterans about their rights and assisted them in many ways. The Coffee Bunker is a non-profit organization assisting veterans, young and old, to cope in the world today and offers them assistance to find employment, housing, etc.Randy is survived by his wife Helen L. Kuhn, son Randy Kuhn (Patricia Kuhn), daughter Marcia Lawlis (David Lawlis) and three grandchildren; Amy Schwartz, Ailie Kofoid, and Ashley Tosh. He also has four great grandchildren; Trevor Schwartz, Aaron Kofoid, Andrew Kofoid, and Hank Tosh, and several Step-Grandchildren and Step-Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Lillie Kuhn of Salina, Kansas and sister, Ellen Jewel Witschi (Lee Witschi) of Salina, Kansas.Interment will be September 9, 2017, at Floral Haven Graveside, 6500 S. 129th E. Ave, Broken Arrow, OK, with Military Salute at 1:15 PM, followed by Celebration of Life at Asbury United Methodist Church Chapel, 6767 S.
