Barbara J Carter's Obituary
Born to Zula Mae Hobson and Dewey Hobson, Sr. September 22, 1927 in Ft. Worth, Texas, Barbara passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 21, 2009. She was surrounded by her loving children at the home of her daughter, Rebecca Burke, which was her home for the last five years. Barbara worked at Vandevers as a bridal consultant and model in the late 1940’s. After a brief, whirlwind romance, she married James I. Carter, Jr., who passed away September 1, of 1999. She is survived by her brother, Dewey Hobson, Jr. and wife Jean. She is also survived by her children Kelly Carter, Christie Burk and her husband, Michael , Rebecca Burke and her husband, Pat , and their children, Katie Brewer and her husband Kirk and Kyle Burke, and James W. Carter and his wife, Monica along with their seven children, Jimmy, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Jessica, Jonathan, Joshua and Jefferson. Barbara was always and foremost a compassionate and caring mother. Her family came first. She made holidays and birthdays special with decorations and festivities. She was always there to listen and tell you it will be ok. She loved music and cherished many sweet pets over the years. She will be sorely missed by Freckles, Lilly, Sid and Izzy. The family would like to thank several people: Carolyn Neal and Brenda Mathews for their caring services, Dr. Edward Martin of Oklahoma Heart Institute and Dr. Jon Cox for the medical services they provided Barbara for the last several years of her life. The family also expresses appreciation to Dr. Kevin Lewis for caring enough to prescribe the bipap for mom and extending her life at least five years. During the last five years of her life, she enjoyed the companionship and activity provided by Oasis Adult Day Care, and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to them at 3817 South Lewis, Tulsa, OK 74105.
