Barbara F. Gay's Obituary
Barbara Faye Gay departed this life on December 11, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 88. Barbara was born on August 18, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Dan Monroe Caywood and Maggie Mae Caywood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Seth Thomas “Tom” Gay, and sister, Gwendolyn Caywood. She is survived by a sister, Danette Bellows, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter, Marilyn Chenoweth, and husband, Terry Chenoweth, of Mannford, Oklahoma; and a daughter, Christine Gay, and husband, Roger Sels, of Anchorage, Alaska. Barbara is also survived by her granddaughter, Leah Clare, and husband, Michael Clare, and their seven children: Morgan, Shelbi, Jacob, Bly, Braelyn, Alex, and Aiden, all of Glenpool, Oklahoma; and her granddaughter, Margaret Sels, of Portland, Oregon; as well as her nieces and nephews: Susan McCauley of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Dan Wallace and wife, Sharon Wallace, of Fort Worth, Texas; and Cheryl Barr and husband, John Barr, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many other beloved family and friends. Barbara recently moved from her Jenks, Oklahoma, home of 43 years to Oklahoma Methodist Manor in Tulsa.Barbara worked as a housewife during her daughters’ early years and later worked out of the home at an insurance agency for a brief period. Barbara enjoyed taking her family on camping and fishing trips with frequent visits to Grand Lake to see her mother and father at their lake house. In 1981, just prior to Tom’s retirement from the Corps of Engineers, Barbara and Tom had the opportunity to live and work in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, until 1985, when they returned and Tom officially retired. During their time in Riyad, they traveled to several European countries and eventually around the world. Upon returning home to Jenks, Barbara and Tom continued traveling to visit family and friends. Several of Barbara’s favorite things to do besides traveling were playing bridge in her early days, then watching the birds and squirrels at her Jenks home, crossword puzzles, and monthly bunco games with her Jenks neighbors (the “Bunco Babes”).Barbara will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband of 58 years, Tom.
