Barbara Ellen (Smith) Miller
Barbara was born November 8, 1935 to Orvil Lee and Clara Anna (Piguet) Smith at their home located in Garnett OK. The eighth child of eleven and the third daughter. Barbara was nicknamed "Polly" by her older brothers and became a name she was known as through the years by family members.
During her childhood years at home, Barbara helped take care of her younger siblings and also had chores around the farm. Barbara attended the elementary school down the road and graduated from East Central IHS, class of 1953. Her high school activities included playing basketball and cheerleading. Barbara studied business courses such as shorthand and typing, in which she excelled and was able to turn these skills into a career.
Barbara met the love of her life, Charles, on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They were married on August 12, 1955, and welcomed two children into the family. Nanette and Russell, a solid foundation was laid for them in a loving and caring home. Together they enjoyed many years of bowling throughout the Tulsa area. There were family trips, and many family gatherings, including holidays and Saturday night card games. Celebrating fifty years of marriage before Charles' death in 2005.
Barbara attended Our Savior Lutheran Church, Tulsa, and was active in the Braille group, assembling books for those in need.
She worked outside the home and retired after thirty-seven years at Tulsair Beechcraft as the Sales Dept executive secretary, assistant to the sales manager, and salesmen.
Barbara was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, husband Charles, son Russell and great-grandson Arlo
Survived by youngest brother Robert Smith of Portland TN, daughter Nanette Mock of Broken Arrow OK. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Michelle Lowrie (Stephen) Roman and Sawyer of Broken Arrow OK, Melissa Hulings (Jason) Nolan and Liza of Nacogdoches TX and Cliffton Miller of Okmulgee OK. Numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, April 26th at Floral Haven and the funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 27th, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
