Barbara Myers' Obituary
Barbara Kaye Myers was born October 12, 1940, in Pleasantville, Iowa to Francis and Erma Maxwell. She passed away August 21, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Barb graduated from Hartford (Iowa) High School in 1959. She had 3 sisters- Beverly Raye, Bonnie Raye, and Brenda Maye. They were known as the 4 B’s. While growing up in Hartford she was very active in 4H. While in 4H she learned how to sew along with showing cows. She went to Iowa State University for 2 years and studied fashion design. In November 1958, her future sister-in-law Joan introduced her to her brother Thomas Myers who was on his way to his next Navy duty station, Bremerhaven, Germany. While in Germany Thomas proposed to her and she accepted---by mail. They got married on June 5, 1961. Her husband, Thomas Myers, re-upped into the Navy and they were assigned to Virginia, and he was sent to a school in Pensacola Florida. While there her daughter, Marcella, was born. For the next 18 years Barbara and her family travelled the world. Tom retired from the Navy in 1979 and moved to Tulsa where they lived until their deaths.
Her love for sewing continued throughout her life. She made a lot of Marcie’s clothes while she was growing up and made her wedding dress and all the bridesmaids dresses. She also made formals for her nieces when they needed them in college. Her sewing did not just include clothes, but she also made baby pizzas (baby playmats) and other crafts. While in Tulsa she found a group of people that shared her love of Angels, and she joined the angel club about 25 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Beverly Gough and Brenda Koger and her husband Thomas Myers. She is survived by her daughter Marcella Brannon, of Tulsa, OK; her sister Bonnie Shupe of Ankeny and her brother-in-law Larry Koger of Malvern, Iowa and sisters-in-law, Joan Parker of Carlisle, Iowa and Sue Myers of Pleasantville, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her “other daughters” – Carole Lee, Karla Ford, Dana White and Debbie Fallis.
