Barbara Evelyn Stephens' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Barbara Evelyn Stephens
Barbara “Evelyn” (Mason) Stephens passed away March 15, 2024, at the age of 90. She was born the youngest of seven children to Samuel Monroe and Laura Mason on November 7, 1933, in Stonebluff, Oklahoma. She graduated from Salina Oklahoma High School in 1952. Evelyn married Robert "Bob" Stephens of Chouteau, Oklahoma on February 22, 1953. She is survived by her son Denny Stephens of Hilliard, Ohio and her daughter Denise (Mark) Hanoch of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Evelyn’s father was a sharecropper and they moved regularly as she was growing up. At the age of 19, Evelyn married Bob. Her story is really the story of the two of them. Bob made a successful career for himself in the military, first serving 5 years in the Navy and then 17 years in the Air Force. After Bob's military service came to an end, Evelyn and Bob retired to a small farm northeast of Skiatook, Oklahoma and later moved to University Village in Tulsa. In sharing their lives, they were truly dedicated to one another, being able to overcome any challenges that ever came their way. They were married 70 years.
Evelyn and Bob loved to travel and saw a large part of the world during overseas military assignments. They loved traveling in their RV and crisscrossed the US many times over the years, visiting family, friends from the military, and many interesting places along the way.
Evelyn was known for her dedication to her children, her kindness, generosity and hospitality. Evelyn’s house was always ready to host visitors. Everyone felt the warmth of Evelyn and Bob’s welcome time and time again. As the youngest and last of each of their families, they hosted many reunions that nurtured family bonds throughout the years. Evelyn will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Evelyn's children rejoice in the fact that she and Bob have been reunited in Heaven and are finally together again.
