Barbara June Wells' Obituary
Barbara "June" Wells, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 13, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on May 25, 1940, in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Martin "Sandy" and Hazel Stewart. June's life was marked by her love of God, dedication to her family, passion for sports, and love for her community. June graduated from Bray High School in 1958 where she excelled in basketball. Her talent and dedication led her to be recruited by Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. She became an All-American basketball player and proudly represented her university on the court. While attending college June's life took a wonderful turn when she met the love of her life, Morris Wells. They united in marriage in 1961 in Texas and their union blessed them with three children. June's professional career spanned 29 years in the Banking Industry, where she excelled as a Branch Manager at Bank of America in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Beyond her professional accomplishments, she loved cooking for her family and neighbors. Her Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition for her family. June's love for God and attending church held great importance to her. She consistently dedicated her time and energy to volunteering at her church. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immense happiness to her life. She created lasting memories with her loved ones, and her nurturing presence will be deeply missed. Barbara "June" Wells leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She is preceded in passing by her father and mother, Martin Lee Stewart and Hazel (Parks) Stewart; her husband, Morris Wells, her brother, M.L. Stewart; brother, Ronnie Stewart, and her grandsons, Luke and Levi Wells.
She leaves behind her children, Rodney Wells and his wife, Janice, Rickey Wells and his wife, Stevia, Jana Grotts and her husband, Craig; her grandchildren, Vanessa Opitz and her husband Mitch, Jessie Gray, Joshua Wells, Noah Wells, Jobe Wells, Boaz Wells, Josey Wells, Austin Grotts and his fiancé, Taylor Kusler, Ashtyn Grotts, Brady Grotts; her great-grandchildren, Connor, Cora, Clara, Colt, Buddy, & Cambri, her sister, Gayle Selby; sister Sandra Bishop and her husband, Dave; her brother, Terry Stewart and his wife, Reba; and a host of other family members and friends who were touched by her kindness and grace. June's warm smile, loving nature, and vibrant spirit will forever be treasured in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Sequoyah Creek Baptist Church in Broken Arrow.
