Bartie Bowker's Obituary
Bartie Ann Bowker (nee Hunt) was born to Burl Harvey Hunt and Julia Bartice Hunt (nee Long) in Parsons, Kansas on August 20, 1930. She passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, after an extended illness. Bartie grew up in Oswego, Kansas and in northeastern Oklahoma, where her father worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. She attended school in Oswego and in Fairfax and Kaw City, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Coffeyville, Kansas, where she lived for a year with her Uncle Clifford and Aunt Katherine Long. She married Herman Eugene Bowker at the Methodist Church in Kaw City in 1949. Bartie and Gene were married for more than sixty years, until Gene’s death in Broken Arrow in 2014.Gene’s employment in the petroleum industry took the couple to a number of different locations over the years, from Burbank, Shidler and Ardmore, Oklahoma to Williston, North Dakota. Active in Christian and Baptist churches, they participated in and contributed generously to music and children’s ministries and purchased hymnbook and pianos for several congregations. Bartie taught music in the schools during their stay in North Dakota.Bartie was a devoted homemaker. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking and hosting holiday get – togethers. She sent numerous boxes of cookies to her brother when he was overseas with the U.S. Army and remembered the birthdays of all her grandchildren and great – grandchildren. She also played the piano for Sunday school for many years and more recently participated in the bell choir at her church in Broken Arrow.Bartie is survived by daughters Beverly Fitch and Barbara Monjaras (husband Ed) and son Brian Bowker and his wife Lorie. Beverly’s daughters Melissa Knapp (Kyle Knapp) and Michelle Davis (Matt Davis) ; Barbara’s daughter Danielle Hernandez; and Brian’s children Brianne, Weston (wife Jocelyn) and Brittany Bowker. Great – grandchildren include Bethany, Abby, and Daniel Knapp, Marissa and Madison Davis, all of Broken Arrow, as well as Vicente and Milo Hernandez of Albuquerque. Bartie also is survived by her younger brother David Hunt, of Tulsa, and his children Laura, Anne and Matthew Hunt and Matthew’s daughter Evelyn Juliana.Funeral services are scheduled for 11 A.M. on the Monday following Easter, April 22, 2019 in the Rose Chapel at Floral Haven.
