Ben McCreary's Obituary
Fred McCreary, 83, was a resident of Bixby, OK. He was born on January 7, 1935, in Memphis, Texas, to W. B. McCreary and Zera Mae (Gerlach) McCreary. He graduated to his eternal home in heaven on December 12, 2018.He is survived by his lovely wife, Donna Bonar McCreary, his daughter and her husband Kimberly and Orlando Juarez of Bixby, OK, and his two sons and their wives Kevin and Jana McCreary of Pearland, TX, and Kenneth and Liza McCreary of New Braunfels, TX, his brother Jerry McCreary of Kingsland, TX, and his uncle Charles McCreary of Houston, TX. He was “Papa” to 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.Although Fred was a rather humble man and not one to brag, he was a very proud Texan. Growing up in Memphis, TX, he loved to hunt with his granddaddy while his dad was fighting in WW2.He became self-employed at the age of 12, when he took wedding pictures for a family friend. He loved learning how to do things and made his first darkroom from a large cardboard refrigerator box. He continued to use those skills as the school photographer in high school and college. In addition to photography, some of his greatest passions were boating and waterskiing, of which he was always ready to show off his pictures. Other hobbies he had were motorcycling and woodworking. After getting his math degree at McMurray University, he was employed for four years at White Sands Missile Range, tracking guided missiles. He then began a 30-year career as a space engineer for NASA where he helped put men and women into space.Fred was proudly married to Donna since 1959. He would gladly share about his love for God and was always ready and willing to pray for others. For someone who helped this great nation make “one small step for Man, one giant leap for Mankind,” we celebrate you today! “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land.” Ezekiel 22:30 In lieu of flowers the family asked for donation to The Bridge building fund!
