Bennie Ross' Obituary
Bennie Ross was born on July 13, 1943 to the late Richard and Lillie Mae Sherron-Nurse inTullahassee, Ok. Bennie graduated from Carver G. Woodson in Tullahassee and went on to attend Langston University.In 1965, he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Weapon Mechanic in the VietnamWar. He received an honorably discharged with the U.S. Air Force with the 563 Tac FighterSquadron in 1969. Bennie was employed and retired with Honeywell Security Installation and also worked forHolders Security. He was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church.Bennie was an active and faithful member in the NAACP over 20 years. He was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternityfor 54 years and 9 months. He received 4 National Omega Psi Phi Service Awards; the 9th District Awardsfor Elite and Pool Tournament; XI Omega Chapter Awards-Omega Man of the Year, Service to Omega,Special Recognition to Omega. The list goes on and on, but this is just a glimpse into what he had accomplishas a man of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He held numerous positionin the Chapter, but his prized positionwas being the “House Manager” for the Frat House until his passing. Bennie married Valerie Jenkins on April 20, 1985.They never let grass grow under their feet. They always had people to see, places to go and things to do.Valerie passed away on February 20, 2017. Bennie was all about family and had a “heart of gold”. He will truly be missedat the family gatherings. He was preceded in death by his: Father, Mother, and wife.He leaves to cherish his memory: his sister, Juande’ McGee, his niece, Sonja McGee, his nephew, Julius McGee of Tulsa;and nephew, Cecil McGee of Virginia. His Fraternity Brothers and a host of relatives and friends.Funeral service to be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church.
