Bertis Edwin Phillips' Obituary
Bertis Edwin Phillips, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on February 23, 1948, in Detroit to James Preston and Johnnie Mae Phillips, Bertis lived a life full of joy, laughter, and love.
Bertis shared 42 beautiful years of marriage with his cherished wife, Kaye Donna Phillips. Together, they built a family filled with warmth and happiness, raising two daughters, Twalla Marlene and LaDonna Louise, who were the light of his life. A proud veteran, Bertis served his country honorably in the army. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly throughout his life, leading him to pursue various business ventures with passion and determination. Bertis was known for his boundless enthusiasm and zest for life, which he expressed through his hobbies of sewing, skating, and swimming. He was a master of all three finding immense joy in each stitch, glide, and stroke.
Upon giving his life to the Lord, Bertis began faithfully serving his Church of Christ community as a lay leader. His North Peoria Church of Christ family will deeply miss him in the midst of the congregation but celebrate that he has gone on to the reward of a life in Christ.
Bertis had a remarkable gift for storytelling and humor. He was a jokester at heart, always ready with a funny tale or a clever quip that could light up any room. His infectious laughter and cheerful demeanor left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Preston, and Johnnie Mae Phillips, and by his two sisters, Kay Frances Turner and his twin, Myrtis Elaine Mack.
Along with his wife and children, Bertis leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his siblings Robyn Wendell Phillips, James Preston Phillips, Jr. (affectionately known as Jimmy), Marlene Jean Wilcox, and April Joy Phillips. Bertis’ legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we remember Bertis, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, family, and countless cherished moments. His memory will continue to inspire and bring joy to all who were blessed to be a part of his journey.
