Betty Jean Bechtold's Obituary
Betty Jean (Woolsey) Bechtold, 90, passed away May 27, 2013. She was born in Arkansas City, KS, February 1, 1923 to Opal Fern and Emmett A. Woolsey, as the youngest of three children. Betty was a graduate of Newkirk High School and attended Oklahoma A & M, now known as Oklahoma State University. She married Edwin L. Bechtold on October 8, 1943 in Tuscaloosa, AL, during his service in the Army, as a flight instructor. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Betty's love of family has always been apparent through her generosity, advice, and love. Never one to stand on the sidelines, she attended countless sporting and school activities of her grandchildren. Betty was an active member of the Bishop Kelley High School Booster Club as well as a volunteer in the school cafeteria. She hosted many family holidays, celebrations and dinners, passing along several cherished recipes. Betty had many hobbies including playing bridge, painting in several mediums, sewing, and quilt making. She was known throughout the family as a talented and creative quilter, making over 90 quilts for her loved ones. It was her love of quilting that she passed on to her daughters, granddaughters and other family members. They would spend hours together reading quilting books and magazines planning her next quilt. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Edwin L. Bechtold. She is survived by their children Suzanne Bechtold Estrada and Mary Jane Bechtold Fahey and husband Bill, all of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren James J. (Buddy) Estrada of Tulsa, OK, Edwin C. (Chris) Estrada of Houston, TX, Lisa S. Wallace of Dallas, TX, William J. (Bill) Fahey, III of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Patrick S. Fahey of Rogers, AR; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Franciscan Villa Nursing Center for the loving care they provided to Betty. They would also like to thank St. John Hospice for the wonderful nursing care and spiritual guidance. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 pm, Friday, May 31, 2013 at Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, OK.
