Betty Jean Brannon's Obituary
Betty Jean Brannon, Grandma B, age 94, gained her wings on September 25, 2023, while at home with her family by her side.
There are endless ways to describe someone worthy of admiration, role model, hero, idol. They're the people we draw strength from in our times of weakness and the ones we look to in our time of triumph. Oftentimes they don't realize that their very presence is a blessing. They don't really know how much they're loved, how much they're needed, and how much they mean to others. They're not told how much space they occupy in the hearts of everyone they meet, the light they bring to every room they're in, and the enveloping feeling of unconditional love they gift to those around them. And that was Grandma!
Betty Jean (Corbly) Brannon was born on February 26, 1929, to Earl and Faye Corbly in Sentinel Oklahoma. She married her childhood sweetheart, Tunney in 1945, and only had 10 days together before he went off to serve our country. She worked in nursing while Tunney was away at war. She loved being a homemaker, working in the garden, canning food, and of course raising her children!
Grandma B loved to fish from the boat or the shore and sharing that love with her grandchildren. She adored the time she spent with her dad, brother, and granddaughter, Sarah, as they researched and compiled the genealogy for both the Corbly and Brannon families. She enjoyed flowers, bird watching, and loved to see all the beautiful creations her God made. She was very creative and crafty. She made many quilts, blankets, toys, and puppets. Grandma B loved to read, especially her Bible.
Her greatest gift, though, was her faith in Christ, and the many friends and family who came to know Jesus through knowing Granny B. She was a prayer warrior, and we always joked that she had a direct line to God! Even in the last days she wanted to witness to as many people as she could. She asked that a flag be made to fly in front of her house that said, Jesus saves.
Grandma B’s last words and wishes: “God has blessed me with a long happy life; He has never forsaken me; My prayer is, ALL my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and ALL people will come to know MY JESUS and will join Tunney and I in a great reunion in Heaven.”
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin (Tunney) Brannon of 65 years; parents Earl and Faye Corbly; sister Mary Joan Green; son Larry Eugene Brannon; son in law Randy Eugene Gibson; granddaughter Sarah Jane Gibson; and great granddaughter Hannah Alysabeth Hamby. She is survived by her brother Don Allen Corbly; son Jerry Don Brannon; daughter Linda Gibson; daughter Mary Udstuen and husband David; Grandchildren: Scot Brannon and Amber, Steven and Ashley Gibson, Chris Brannon and Nancy, Tami and Joe Baldwin, Lori, and Bianca Brown; John and Theresa Udstuen, and multiple great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, many friends and neighbors, and her dear church family.
