Betty Joyce Edmondson's Obituary
Betty Joyce Edmondson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in Azle, Texas, at the age of 85. A loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and steadfast friend, Betty’s kindness, wisdom, and love touched countless lives and will be remembered forever.
Born on September 6, 1939, in Guymon, Oklahoma, to John and Grace Reser, Betty was the second youngest of seven children. As a young child, her family moved to Humansville, Missouri, where she was a shining presence, proudly serving as a baton twirler and Homecoming Queen. These early moments reflected the grace, confidence, and charm she carried throughout her life. In 1956, Betty married the love of her life, William “Bill” Edmondson, beginning a partnership rooted in love and mutual respect. Over the next 40 years, they built a family and a legacy, raising three sons—Bobby, Ricky, and Tony. Together, Betty and Bill co-founded B&B Sand & Topsoil, growing it into a thriving business through their shared hard work and determination. Betty’s professional life also included working as a beautician, a role that brought her satisfaction and led to lifelong friendships. It was during this time she met her best friend, Carolyn Newman. The two formed a bond that lasted a lifetime, sharing daily conversations and unwavering support for each other until the very end.
Betty and Bill’s shared love for racing became the driving force behind their family racing team, further uniting them through a mutual passion for speed and competition. Betty loved cheering for Bill during his speed boat races and later celebrating the achievements of her son and grandsons—Tony, Patrick, and Landon—on the racetrack. Watching her family carry on the exhilarating racing tradition and the legacy she and Bill had built together filled her with immense pride. A true matriarch, Betty was the glue that held her family together. She was never absent from a game, school function, or special event involving her sons or grandchildren. She especially enjoyed cheering for her great-grandson Landon as he played football and began his own racing career.
A woman with great creativity and talent, Betty found fulfillment in many hobbies, including reading books, sewing, crafts, puzzles, and gardening. Her affinity for nature gave her peace, and she often found beauty in the simple wonders of the world around her. An avid cook and baker, Betty’s kitchen was more than a workspace—it was the heart of her home, where countless memories were made, and bonds were strengthened. Betty’s generosity and zest for life made her the heart of her community. Her ability to see the beauty and potential in everything and everyone meant that, to her, nothing and no one was ever broken beyond repair. She loved hosting gatherings and bringing people together for celebrations filled with laughter, warmth, and good company. Known for an adventurous spirit, Betty loved to travel, taking memorable trips to Mexico, Paris, and Hawaii. Her sense of adventure extended to RV trips and motorcycle rides. A lover of live music, she delighted in having seen Elvis live in concert, an experience she treasured.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Bill Edmondson, who passed on July 31, 1996. Having already met the love of her life, Betty never dreamed of remarrying, choosing instead to honor their enduring bond for the rest of her life. She’s also preceded in death by her parents, John and Grace Reser; siblings, Ima Jean Degraffenreid, Marjorie Brown, Peggy Blevins, Wayne Reser, and Keith Reser; and her son, Bobby Edmondson.
She is survived by her brother, Johnny Reser (Donna); sister-in-law, Kathy Reser; sons, Ricky Edmondson and Tony Edmondson; granddaughters, Amber Stasa (Patrick) and Ashley Murray (Orville); and great-grandchildren, Landon, Kelcie, and Kollins. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
