Betty Lucille Edmunson's Obituary
Betty Lucille (Varney) Edmunson, age 86, of Tulsa, OK, passed peacefully on to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, December 10, 2020, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Betty was born in Crum, WV, on April 23, 1934, and came to Oklahoma in 1965, upon marrying Harvey K. Edmunson, of Shawnee, OK. After 52 years of marriage, Betty survived her husband in July of 2018, and continued to serve the Lord until her passing this week.
Betty graduated from Crum, WV, High School in 1952, and attended clerical school in Huntington, WV, after which she worked in a variety of jobs until marrying. Always industrious, she was an instructive Homemaker and active in the churches of Christ in Tulsa, OK.
Also active in her other hometowns of Houston, TX, and Livermore, CA, she moved wherever the Spirit guided her. After raising her 3 children, Betty gained employment at JC Penny’s, where she also found the opportunity to continue her lifelong passion for shopping.
Betty will be remembered best as the sweetest person anyone has ever met. Smart, edgy, and engaging, her capacity for remembering names, phone numbers, and birthdays of even remote relatives are legendary. Betty would always send a card, a note, or one of her famous letters. Always grounded in her faith and the Book, Betty shared the Lord’s love with everyone, from the repairman to the preacher. Her touch is felt in every community she has lived in, even to this day.
Betty is survived by friends too numerous to list, and by her brother Troy E. Varney and wife Mary, of Crum WV, 3 children and 6 grandchildren; son M. Scott Edmunson; daughter Janice (Edmunson) McKean and her husband Byron, with their children Grant, Emma Williams and her husband Alex, Cara Hurst and her husband Douglas; son John Edmunson and his wife Jennifer, with their children Vivian Hoffmeister and her husband Jordan, Jack Edmunson and William Edmunson.
Betty most recently attended the 10th and Rockford church of Christ, in Tulsa, OK. A graveside service will be held in her honor at the Tecumseh Cemetery, in Tecumseh, OK, where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband Harvey Edmunson and in-laws Elmer and Dollie Edmunson.
Celebrations and memories of her life are encouraged to be sent to the attention of John Edmunson, PO Box 1951, Edmond, OK, 73083.
