Betty Lou Flower's Obituary
Betty L. Flower Betty L. Flower, formerly a resident of Ponca City, passed away on Tuesday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Nursing Home in Broken Arrow. She was 88. Betty was born the daughter of Fred Secrest and Alice Henrietta Secrest on May 19, 1923, in Alamosa, CO. She met and later married J. Rex Flower after graduating from Gunnison High School. Betty and Rex moved from Gunnison, CO to Albuquerque, NM where Rex was hired by Conoco after WW II. The family was transferred from Albuquerque to Fort Worth, TX, Overland Park, KS and finally to Ponca City where they lived until Rex's passing in 1996. Betty volunteered to work at the Ponca City Art Association for approximately 18 years, raising money through a semi-annual flea market. After her husband's passing, she and her brother, William, delivered Meals on Wheels for several more years. Betty was also a longtime member of T.O.P.S. #308 on Ponca City. She is survived by her daughter, Leeann Flower, of Broken Arrow and Pamela Vanderheiden of Vancouver, WA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rex; her parents, Fred and Alice Secrest, and brothers, William H. Secrest and Homer C. Secrest. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to SolAmor Hospice of Coweta, OK. No services have been scheduled.
