Betty Jean Garrett's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Jean (Norton) Garrett. Born on November 26, 1938, she departed this world from Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old.
The daughter of Carl Norton and Lula (Hill) Norton, Betty grew up in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, and graduated from Scotts Bluff High School in 1956. She went on to earn a B.A. in Psychology from Baylor University and later an M.A. in Counseling from Oral Roberts University. She worked for Western Union for many years; then, after dedicating her life to Jesus Christ and His service in the 1970's, Betty launched a ministry as a Christian counselor.
In the early 1990's, after completing her M.A., she became a licensed counselor with the state of Oklahoma. In her more than a quarter of a century as a Christian counselor, she worked with hundreds of clients and deeply impacted their lives as well as those of their families. Some former clients have said that they would not be alive today were it not for Betty's help and influence.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Barbara (Norton) Snell of Boise, Idaho. She is survived by her two daughters (Leslie Garrett Myers and Jennifer Garrett-Neuhaus), her six grandchildren, and her four great-grandchildren.
Betty Garrett lived a full life and served both God and those around her with passion and selflessness. One of her favorite Scriptures is a fitting tribute to her - Acts 20:24, which reads, "I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace." Betty has indeed run the race, completed the task, and given powerful testimony to the goodness of God's grace.
