Betty Louise Gossett's Obituary
On a cold day in February, February 1, 1936 to be exact, Virgil and Ruby Roat welcomed a baby girl. This little girl was known to most of us as Betty Louise Roat. Her two brothers, Leonard and Donald, were thrilled with the addition. But as with boys, they thought she was a toy. Wrong. She grew up in Bixby and Sapulpa areas of Northeast Oklahoma. When her dad, Virgil, found work in Tulsa, they moved there. Betty’s grandmother Lucy was a spiritual point in her life. Lucy made sure she had given her heart to Jesus. As time went on, she graduated from Will Rogers High School.
In 1955 Betty became Betty Gossett upon her marriage to Jimmy Ray Gossett. Betty and Jimmy had 2 daughters, Virginia and Vicki. She had a few different jobs. Some of us remember when she worked at a flower shop in Bixby. When they asked her to deliver, it was in a VW bug with a big lady bug on top. Naturally embarrassed at first but she got used to it. She then went to work in the accounting department and then in the purchasing department for Tulsa County. In 1986 Jimmy succumbed to cancer.
She spent a few years without a loving husband until she met, then married Carl D Willis. They travelled a bit. One day they decided its time to relax in the waning years. So they did. Most often Betty and Carl could be found relaxing in their home near Foyil, with periodic trips to visit cousins and grandchildren. They enjoyed each other's company for many years until it was time for Carl to make his heavenly journey,
just one week and a day before Betty went home to be with the Lord.
We can share that those in her life that proceeded her in death that is not mentioned in this writing. Betty’s brother Leonard passed as a young boy. Her mother Ruby passed in 1983 was next then father Virgil went home in 1993. Her brother Donald took his journey in 2011 and was preceded by one granddaughter, Melissa Cossey.
Betty Gossett leaves behind many to remember her love. Her daughters, Virginia Cossey of Northwest Arkansas with children Ericka and Coy Cossey (great grandchildren Linley, Clara and Colin) and Vicki Walker of Claremore and her son Joseph (and great grandchildren Mallory, Rylan and Payton), as well as Carl’s children, Ladonna Carlton of Claremore, Beth Willis of Disney and Thomas Willis of Bunker Missouri. Her niece and nephew, Donna Roat Nerio and Donald Roat.
