Betty Jane Jacobsen's Obituary
Betty Jane Jacobsen, 89, was born Oct. 21, 1925 and passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2014. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Betty was the daughter of John and Lucrutia O’Meara. She graduated at age 16 from Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio and attended Ohio University. Upon her high school graduation she was named personnel manager at McCall Corporation. Betty was a volunteer with the USO and met her husband of 58 years, Walter S. “Jake” Jacobsen at Wright Air Force Base. As the mother of six, Betty was active in all of her children’s lives and through Carnegie, Nimitz and Memorial schools and also in her church, Ascension Lutheran, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School administrator and youth director among other duties. Betty returned to work in the personnel field in Tulsa after her children were grown. A three-time cancer survivor, Betty believed in living life to the fullest. She enjoyed creating recipes, reading, sewing, designing sweatshirts and spending time with her family. Betty was preceded in death by: her parents, husband Jake, daughter Jane and sons Wayne and Land. She is survived by son Karl and wife Norma of Star Harbor, Texas, son Pete and wife Jodee of Broken Arrow and daughter Lynn of Tulsa as well as grandson Ethan and wife Amber of Glenpool, granddaughter Annie Oakeson of Murray, Utah, and great granddaughter Gigi. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church, 4803 S.
