Betty McCartt's Obituary
Betty McCartt passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on December 28th in Escondido, California after a wonderful Christmas with family in Palm Springs. Betty was 88 years-old.
Betty was born on April 24, 1932 to Thomas Shea and Madeline “Mimi” Terhune. She grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School in 1950. The love of Betty’s life was her husband of 65 years, Loyd, who passed away in January of 2017 at age 90.
Betty and Loyd raised their children, Gay (born in 1953) and Brad (born in 1967) in both Tulsa and Denver Colorado, where they lived for many years. Betty and Loyd loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After their retirement, Betty and Loyd divided their time between San Marcos, California and their home in Tulsa. They became full-time Californians in 2013.
Besides her family, Betty’s greatest passion was travel. She and Loyd circled the globe together on countless adventures collecting new friends everywhere they went. She loved her friends and always made sure they knew it -whether it was a thoughtful card in her perfect penmanship, a phone call, text or a positive comment on Facebook. Betty loved belonging to P.E.O., where she was an active member for several decades, and cherished each of her P.E.O. sisters.
Betty lead life to the fullest and was always positive and happy. She loved music and you knew Betty was home on a Saturday evening, because you could hear The Lawrence Welk Show on the television. What better way to say goodbye to a fabulous lady than the closing theme:
“Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to you
Here's a wish and a prayer that every dream comes true
And now 'til we meet again Adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen Good Night!”
Betty is survived by her children; Gay McCartt Sanwick (Jim Sanwick) and Bradley McCartt (Mark Dubas), as well as her grandchildren; Amanda Camacho (Michael Stowers) and Travis Sanwick (Liz Sanwick) and two great-grandchildren Mia Camacho and Maci Camacho. She is also survived by her sister Pearl Ingram and brother Clifford Shea (Sandra Shea). She was predeceased by her husband, Loyd McCartt and grandson Justin Sanwick.
Betty will be laid to rest alongside Loyd at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Tulsa. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on her birthday, April 24th, 2021.
Donations in Betty’s honor can be made to P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) to benefit scholarships for deserving students:
