Betty Ann Moody's Obituary
Betty Ann (Sneed) Moody Betty was born April 2, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to J.C. and Dorothy Sneed and passed away on June 2, 2015. She attended Daniel Webster High School in Tulsa and later completed a program in business and accounting at Draughan School of Business. Over the years she was employed as an accountant for Jerry Mudd Homes, Mutual of New York Insurance and Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company until her retirement. Betty was active in her children’s activities including being a homeroom mother, participating in PTA and serving as a leader for her daughters’ Brownie and Campfire Girls troops. She was also very active in the sports activities of her sons and grandchildren, serving as a scorekeeper for baseball teams and attending countless baseball, football, basketball and soccer games over the years. When she wasn’t busy working outside the home, taking care of the household or attending sporting events, Betty would most often be found with a book in her hand. Her earliest and fondest childhood memories were of walking to the local library every week with her mother, sister and brother. She followed suit with her own children, taking them to the public library regularly, strictly enforcing completion of Tulsa Public Library’s “summer reading lists” and instilling a love of reading throughout her family. As a young woman, Betty was an accomplished archer, participating with her late husband, Jay Trantham, in the Tulsa Archery Association, Oklahoma Archery Association and National Archery Association where she achieved many local, state and national awards over the years. Following Jay’s 1964 death, Betty remarried in 1966 to Tom Moody, a widower with children of his own. Betty and Tom celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in April 2015 and have continued to make their home in Tulsa where they are longtime active members of Highland Park Christian Church. Over the years, Tom and Betty were avid travelers, having visited Mexico, Curacao, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Panama, London, Italy, France and Spain. They have also traveled together throughout the US, visiting Alaska and spending summer vacations with their adult children and grandchildren in various locations over the years. Among their favorites were California, Boston and, especially, their annual visits to Colorado. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Dorothy Sneed; her brother, Donald Lee Sneed (Gwen) and her sister, Mary Joyce Rogers (Fred). She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Tom Moody, and children: Marilyn Trantham Blackwell (Pam), Karen Trantham Johnson (Dave), Connie Trantham, Timothy Trantham (Venus), Joe Moody (Erin) and Terry Moody (Robyn). Tom and Betty have 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, plus and many nieces and nephews. Betty’s family would like to thank the Senior Select organization, and especially Judy Matthews, for the excellent care and support over the past several years. During the final weeks of Betty’s life, she received compassionate and quality end-of-life care from the staff at St. John Hospice. Betty’s family respectfully requests that anyone who is inclined to send flowers, please consider making a donation to Clarehouse in Betty’s honor, in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made online at www.clarehouse.org Funeral services will be at Highland Park Christian Church on June 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Floral Haven.
