Betty J. Nichols Obituary Betty Jean (Hart) Nichols, 87, formerly of Broken Arrow, passed away April 23, 2016 in Owasso, OK. Betty was born in Wetumka, OK on December 17, 1928 to Bob and Ethel (Wilcoxson) Hart, the youngest of four children. She attended school in Pawhuska, OK where she was a 1946 graduate of Pawhuska High School. In June 1947, she married Gene C. Nichols, with whom she spent 56 years prior to his death in 2003. Due to Gene’s career moves with Cities Service Company, they lived in Dewey and Tulsa, OK, while raising their two children; Miami, AZ; and Broken Arrow, OK where they settled. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and playing golf and bridge. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother and GiGi to her family. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed gardening, reading and entertaining, but she especially loved family gatherings and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow. Betty will be remembered for her kind, loving and independent spirit and her devotion to family. Many have been blessed by her presence and will be enriched by memories of her. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers L. Roger Hart and J. W. Hart; a sister Mildred Owen; husband Gene; son Stephen W. Nichols, and grandson Brian J. Nichols. She will be lovingly missed by her daughter Jeanie Ablett (Jim), of Owasso, OK, daughter-in law Kay Nichols of The Woodlands, TX, grandchildren Greg Ablett, Lisa Rice (Jon) and Kristy McKinzie (Scott), six great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
