Betty Jean "Sheffield" Peterson's Obituary
Betty Jean (Sheffield) PetersonBorn in Big Springs, TX to Louie Heston Sheffield and Jennie Lee (Search) Sheffield February 23, 1930; Died March 28, 2018. Betty moved with her parents and brothers several times before settling in Oakhurst , OK in 1938. Betty graduated from Webster High School in 1949 and Admiral Beauty School in 1961. She was employed by Amerada Petroleum from 1950-1964. She married Charles Eugene Peterson June 23, 1951. She owned and operated a home beauty shop from 1964 to 1980. From 1980 to 1989 she was employed at the University of Tulsa, including the office manager for Coach Nolan Richardson during his entire tenure as the men’s basketball coach. She always described that position as her most exciting job. From 1991 to 2010 she worked for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a job she found so rewarding she continued to volunteer well after her retirement. Betty is survived by two children: Kelly Jean Peterson of Tulsa, OK and Charles Dirk Peterson of Arlington, VA; brothers: Herbert Maxwell Sheffield of Carl Junction, MO and Louie Heston Sheffield, Jr. of Pinson, AL; grandchildren: Angela Lane Morrow of Travis AFB, CA, Amanda Louise Gargan and Andrew Lee Peterson-Gargan; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, at Floral Haven Funeral Home.Services will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, 6500 S 129thE Ave (Broken Arrow) on April 9, 2018, 12:30pm
