Billy Ed Newman's Obituary
Billy Ed Newman passed away on May 29, 2023 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 14, 1943, in Wewoka, OK to parents Edward and Willetta Newman and had one sister, Sandra. After graduating from Wewoka High School, he went to OSU Tech to study drafting which led to a career in oil and gas engineering. While there, he met is wife, Linda who was also a drafting student. They had two children, Sean and Amber. While living in Tulsa, Bill was an active member of South Lakewood Baptist Church and helped start a mission church in Broken Arrow, where he led the singing and taught Sunday school.
The family then moved to Wagoner and Bill commuted to Tulsa every day for his job. After Sean and Amber graduated from college, Bill and Linda moved back to Broken Arrow where they attended County Line Baptist Church. They eventually returned to Florence Street where Bill sang in the choir and played his trumpet. Bill had a love for music, he was in the band throughout high school, played in the Tulsa Community Band for years, and played taps at funerals.
Bill had many hobbies including beekeeping, woodworking, growing fruits and vegetables and restoring his vintage cars. When he was 15, his parents bought him a 1928 Model A, he spent the next 65 years restoring it. He also owned a 1959 Edsel. Bill loved his church, family, and friends. He loved his life in Broken Arrow and visiting with all the wonderful neighborhood friends they made over the last 31 years there.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda Newman, Children Sean Newman, Amber Donnelly, her husband Robert Donnelly and granddaughter Eva Donnelly. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Newman Willetta Newman (Brister), and his Sister Sandra David.
