Billy Glynn Taylor, a man of remarkable character and indomitable spirit, passed away peacefully at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 4, 2023, at the age of 92. Born on January 28, 1931, in his beloved hometown of Jackson, Tennessee, Billy was the son of Arnold Taylor and Madeline (Lifsey) Taylor. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and adventure that touched the lives of many.
Billy's life was a tapestry of service, adventure, and family. He dedicated 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Major. His service took him across the United States and even to the front lines in Vietnam. Billy's unwavering commitment to his country was a testament to his courage and patriotism.
Following his distinguished military career, Billy embarked on a second career as a corporate pilot for Warren (later Chevron), where he served for 16 years. His love for aviation soared, and the skies became his second home.
In 1987, Billy married the love of his life, Gail, and together they shared a deep and enduring love. Their bond was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them.
Billy had a zest for life that extended far beyond the cockpit. His hobbies included fishing, especially the art of fly fishing, and flying remote-controlled model airplanes. He had an insatiable wanderlust and loved traveling across the United States, exploring its beauty and meeting new people along the way.
Billy was a devoted Christian and a member of the Park Church of Christ in Tulsa, where his faith provided him with guidance and solace throughout his life.
Billy was a loving father to his two children, Stephen Taylor and Lisa Edwards, and a doting grandfather to three grandchildren: Emily Bassett and her husband Ross, Allison McGuire and her husband John, Joseph Edwards and his wife Claire. His joy multiplied when he became a great-grandfather to Everly Bassett.
In addition to his biological family, Billy embraced his stepchildren and their families with open arms. He is survived by his stepchildren, Stephen Eddy and his wife, Amy, and Jill Toma and her husband Matt, as well as his step-grandchildren, Cambria Toma and Ellie Eddy.
Billy Glynn Taylor was known for his great sense of humor, generous spirit, kindhearted nature, and unwavering faith. He was a true gentleman, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Billy, we remember not only the remarkable life he lived but also the legacy of love, patriotism, and adventure that he leaves behind. His memory will forever inspire us to live our lives with the same zest, dedication, and faith that he exemplified.
