Ms Bobbie Burnes' Obituary
Bobbie Lea Burnes, passed away on July 13, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital. Bobbie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and nurse, and her passing has left a huge void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Bobbie was born and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of James and Willa White. She attended Muskogee High School, where she met the love of her life, Lorinzo Burnes. They married on December 12, 1952, and shared 66 years of marriage until Lorinzo's passing in 2019.
In 1971, Bobbie decided to attend the first accredited nursing program at Tulsa Junior College and received her associate degree in nursing. She later went on to obtain her bachelor’s in nursing from Langston University. Bobbie worked at St. Francis Hospital for over 20 years before retiring at an early age. She was a dedicated nurse, whose compassionate nature touched the hearts of all those she cared for. Bobbie's family was the center of her world, and she adored her grandchildren. She loved taking them shopping, cooking with them, and spending time together. The holidays were her favorite time of the year, and she and her family would spend time cooking all kinds of delicious holiday treats, from fudge to cheese logs.
Bobbie's faith was always her strength, and she was a member of Arrow Heights Baptist Church since the early 1960s. She served in many capacities, from Sunday school teacher to helping with meals and much more. She enjoyed God’s beauty and had a passion for flower gardening, spending much time tending her roses and other flowers. Bobbie also enjoyed bowling in her younger years and took great pleasure in keeping her home immaculately clean. She found joy in the simple tasks of life, from ironing her clothes to caring for her family.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her husband Lorinzo, her parents James Chester and Willa White, and her 11 siblings. She was the last of 12 children. Bobbie is survived by her two sons, Joel Burnes and his wife Cheryl, Danny Burnes and his wife Sheri, and four grandchildren: Naomi Hogue and her husband Ryan, Jeremy Burnes and his wife Dana, Zachary Burnes, and Matthew Burnes, along with numerous nephews, nieces, friends, and loved ones.
