Bobbie Burwell's Obituary
Bobbie Maxine Thompson Burwell, 82, of Owasso, Oklahoma passed from this life on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in Owasso, Oklahoma with her family by her side. She was born December 23, 1936 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to her parents, Gerald Archie “Juel” Thompson and Randa Easter Dause Thompson. After a brief time living in Portland, Oregon, her family moved back to Oklahoma and settled in Fort Gibson where her father owned a general store and her mother taught elementary school in Fort Gibson. Bobbie married the love of her life, James Burwell, on May 26, 1957 at First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma and they shared in over 61 beautiful years together.Bobbie was Valedictorian of her senior class at Fort Gibson High school. While attending Northeastern State College, she served as the athletic director and a member of the Cherokee Maiden Drill team. Bobbie pledged Alpha Sigma Alpha social sorority and was a member of the honorary science, math and scholastic fraternities. She graduated Cum Laude in the class of 1957, just three years after high school, with two bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry and a minor in Physics.Bobbie applied her God-given gifts and multiple college degrees by working for General Dynamics as a computer, Sinclair Oil, doing tax preparation, managing the couple’s convenience store, and raising three children. She was a faithful Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Bobbie had a passion for education, traveling, serving, reading, the arts, OSU basketball, and the Thunder. She imparted these passions on her children and grandchildren.Bobbie is survived by her husband, James Burwell of Owasso, Oklahoma; two sons, Jimmy David Burwell and Tracey Raymond of Owasso, Oklahoma and Jeffrey Arnold Burwell and Duong Le Burwell of Owasso, Oklahoma; one daughter, Marlena Gail Burwell of Owasso, Oklahoma; one brother, Gerald Thompson (Kathy) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Marilyn Burt (Doug) of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; and four grandsons, David and Sarah Burwell, Michael Burwell, Rocky Nguyen, and Benjamin Burwell, as well as a bonus granddaughter, Amy McKinley Larwood. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Juel and Randa Thompson.Visitation will be held from 12 – 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019 with family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Central Baptist Church in Owasso, Oklahoma with Reverend Brian Zinck officiating.Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma at www.okfoodbank.org.
