Bobby "Bob" Joe Covey's Obituary
Bobby “BoB’ Joe Covey was born on April 13, 1934 to Roy Vernon Covey and Sadie Marie Collins Covey in Nowata, Oklahoma. He was born in the home of his grandparents, Marvin and Maggie Belle Covey. Bob lived in Nowata until he finished the second grade, then his family moved to Delaware, Oklahoma where his father was employed with the Delaware Consolidated Oil Company. Bob attend school there and met the true love of his life, Evelyn Ann Sargent. She was two years younger than Bob but they rode the school bus together and became sweethearts. They dated until their marriage on August 5, 1955 and spent their Honeymoon in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army in late 1956 and went to Germany for two years. Evelyn moved back home to live with her parents until he returned. Bob went back to work for Phillips Petroleum Company when he returned and worked there until 1962 when he and Evelyn and their little daughter, Dana, went back to school at Oklahoma State University. Upon graduation with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bob took a job at Detroit Diesel. During the year they lived in Detroit, their son, David was born. Then they moved back to Tulsa for a job at Sunray DX Oil Company, which eventually became Sun Oil Company. Bob and his family moved to Philadelphia for a position in the home office, and lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey for seven years. Their next move was to Houston for two years, where Dana graduated from high school. When they moved back to Tulsa, Dana became a student at Oklahoma State. In 1984 when the petroleum industry was facing extreme cut –backs, Bob was laid off. A year and a half later, he started his own business, Covair. David worked with him and they grew the business successfully until 2008 when they company was sold and Bob retired. During Bob’s life, his principal interests have been centered around his family, his wife and children, and more recently, his three grand- children. He enjoyed traveling, first with his family, then with his wife, Evelyn. He loved seeing Ancient Buildings and Construction throughout Europe, Egypt, Greece and Turkey, and wonderful statues and reminders our predecessors left for us to enjoy. The world, both here and abroad, is truly wondrous, a magical place of memories and joys stored up for a life time.Bobby is preceded in passing by his parents, Vernon and Sadie Covey and his two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Covey; daughter, Dana Thurman and her husband Jeff; son, David Covey; grandchildren, Tyler and Alli Thurman and Cydney Covey and numerous other family members and friends.There will be a Celbration of Life Service, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Redeemer Covenant Church
