Bob M. "Coach" Martin's Obituary
Bob M. Martin, also known to many as "Coach," was born on December 26, 1936, and passed away on August 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Oologah, Oklahoma. Bob was born in Hannah, Oklahoma, to his parents, Jimmy and Hazel Martin. He attended school and graduated from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He then attended NEO and Emporia State where he played football and later earned his master’s degree in education.
Bob went on to coach football and multiple other sports for over 20 years, with most of his tenure spent in Collinsville, Oklahoma. During his teaching and coaching career in the mid-70s, Bob started building homes. When he retired from the school system, he became a full-time home builder. Every home he built shared the same strong foundation and core values he instilled in his family. He continued building homes until just a year ago. Bob never missed a football game, a wrestling match, a graduation, or even funerals in his later years. He was known for speaking his mind, even if you didn't want to hear it – he always told the truth. That's one of the things we'll miss the most about him. If he was giving you a hard time, it meant he cared about you.
Bob was preceded in death by both his parents, Jimmy and Hazel, his brother Jimmy, and two sisters, Freda and Jean. He leaves behind four sons and one daughter: Scott and Lajanta Martin of Talala, Oklahoma; Kirk and Jamie Martin of Vera, Oklahoma; Shelley and Terry Beeson of Afton, Oklahoma; Ross Martin of Verdigris, Oklahoma; and Robert and Penny Martin of Claremore, Oklahoma. His legacy will live on through his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless friends. Whether known as Dad, Grandpa, friend, or Coach, he will be dearly missed.
Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 8th, at The First Baptist Church of Collinsville, OK.
